Levelling Up and productivity

There’s been no shortage of suggestions on how to advance economic and social progress across the UK – in regions, cities and devolved nations, and how to reduce inequalities between places and population groups.

We need more investment in health, transport and infrastructure. We need to give local and regional governments more say in what they do, and we need more investment in the drivers of productivity, research and development, innovation and skills, so that we can create a ‘virtuous cycle’ that will continually improve living standards.

Our Managing Director Bart van Ark wrote a blog for Capita about public sector productivity, discussing changing mindsets and a considered long-term view; education and productivity; improving fiscal relationships and developing trust by expanding independence; learning from other countries’ successes; and diminishing hierarchical communication channels.
