The research explores in great depth the processes by which key drivers of performance, such as hierarchical and functional aspects of organisational structure, have an impact on firms’ ability to create value and enhance productivity. Building on a framework developed by the industrial partners in the project, in-depth research is being undertaken in four case study companies. Among the key issues being examined are: how terms such as ‘productivity’ and ‘value creation’ are used in organisations; and what roles are played in the value creation process by different managerial functions and different hierarchical layers.
